10 years ago I had hope:
- Hope I’d lose weight
- Hope I’d be able to save my marriage
- Hope I’d find a new job after being fired
- Hope my baby would stop crying
- Hope my mom and I would stop bickering…
But I don’t have hope anymore. And it’s all because of Brooke Castillo. Brooke taught me that hope SOUNDS good, but it really comes from the place of lack and scarcity.
Hope waits. Hope is patient. Hope doesn’t go out and make things happen. Hope crosses her fingers and snuggles up on the couch browsing Facebook and watching Netflix.
Let me give you an example. About a year ago I was planning a wedding reception. We sent the Save-the-Date on October and invitations in January, but still as it reached the RSVP day only a bit more than half of our friends and family said they were coming to celebrate.
I was hoping there would be a rash of last minute positive RSVPs.
I was hoping the people I wanted to come would come. I was hoping I would feel loved when I saw the YES replies coming through. Brooke didn’t care what I hoped for. She asked me: “How do you want to feel about your wedding reception?”
And my answer was clear: “I want to feel excited.” “Then feel excited! Don’t hope for the circumstance to change. Just decide that your wedding is going to be the best day of your life.”
And that was the moment hope died for me.
I didn’t hope nothing went wrong.
I didn’t hope the food was good.
I didn’t hope people who weren’t there would suddenly show up.
I just decided my wedding day would be the best day of my life and it was.
It took 10 years, but Brooke made me wait to give up all hope and take my life into my own hands and create the life that I wanted to live.
I bought Brooke’s book on February 10, 2007.
I registered for a retreat with her on March 30, 2007.
And on April 19, 2007, I asked if she would consider working with me as a client.
This spring it’s been a decade of working with Brooke. A decade of learning to give up hope and create results instead. A decade of being a self-coaching scholar.
We all have mentors and teachers who have changed our lives and there is no doubt I would not have the life I have without Brooke Castillo. I know I talk about her a lot but it’s for good reason! Her work is so powerful and there is no one else out there quite like her.
In honor of our 10 year anniversary, I want to share with you her new Free Video Series. I just finished watching this series and it is SO good! I truly believe just watching this series and putting these ideas into action in your life will bring you so much peace and sanity.

When I met Brooke I had hope.
But I don’t have hope anymore.
Now I have something so much better:
- I’ve lost 150 lbs, but I’ve felt great about my weight for 7 years.
- I’ll only ever be in an amazing marriage.
- I never need to find a job or worry about getting fired.
- My baby is 11 and he’s my favorite person in the world.
- And my relationship with my mom went from 50/50 love and bickering to 100%. love 100% of the time. I already had the best mom in the world, I just am conscious enough to enjoy it now instead of wistfully HOPING!
If that’s what beings a Self-Coaching Scholar can unlock for me imagine what it might do for you. Get started with Brooke’s free video series here:
I’m not an affiliate, not getting anything for sharing this, I am just deeply and truly grateful for everything in my life that has coming from giving up hope and being a self-coaching scholar. Here’s to giving up hope and finding your happily ever after!
1 thought on “I Lost All Hope”
Hello there. I am greatly interested in undergoing the adventure that is Self Coaching Scholars with Brooke Castillo. I am not sure if I can commit to one year of work though. Let me rephrase that. I know that I can commit, but I know my husband would not feel great about me spending thousands of dollars on self-improvement work (though I know there’s a great possibility of me earning back that money.) Do you recommend an all or nothing approach to this work? Does it only work if you commit to the full year, or would a few months suffice? I’d love to know your thoughts. Thank you!
